A great deal of effort has been devoted to the improvement of the efficiency of heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemical reactions, and photoelectric conversion throughout the world. However, the microscopic understanding of these phenomena has remained elusive. The interfaces between gas and solid, liquid and solid, and at a heterojunction of solids play a crucial role, and we need to reveal the molecular level mechanisms that occur at the interfaces.
